Research Interests

My area of research is the interaction of cardiomyocytes (heart muscle cells) via mechanical deformation of the extracellular matrix, both in the context of nonlinear dynamics and tissue engineering. In numerical simulations, I investigate how cardiomyocytes, viewed as self-excitory nonlinear oscillators, are synchronized by visco-elastic coupling. I study the rheological properties of the extracellular matrix experimentally.
